Today, The Coalition will release Operation 2: Free for All. Operations are free quarterly, multiplayer updates that introduce new ways to play Gears 5. Operation 2: Free for All adds four new characters, three game types, five maps, a new Versus season and a brand-new Tour of Duty full of earnable content.

After a recent content update, Gears 5 had quietly stormed ahead of competing games in terms of storage management. Sitting at around 100GB for a complete install, after multiple free content injections like multiplayer maps, customisation, and the recent Hivebusters campaign, Gears 5 is a BIG old game. Luckily the developers have made things easier for you when loading up.
Gears of War has six multiplayer maps that can be downloaded off the Xbox Marketplace for no charge at all. These maps include Bullet Marsh, a swampland where the Kryll devour anything that leaves the light; Garden, an urban environment with poisonous greenhouses; Old Bones, a map set in a mausoleum; Process, an underground Imulsion-processing plant; Raven Down, an urban map inspiried by the real-world Battle of Mogadishu; and finally Subway, which is located in an underground train station that has access to the streets above.
Even with the glaring issues present in Halo Infinite, nothing quite matches the energy that comes from couch co-op multiplayer shenanigans with a best bud, sibling, or significant other. Plus, the multiplayer portion of Halo Infinite is free, so it's worth giving it a shot at the very least. It's worth noting that while the split-screen co-op mode for the campaign is dead, there will still be online co-op play added to it sometime in the near future.
When you mix those two things with split-screen multiplayer, you get Lego: Marvel Superheroes 2 as a result. Now that the game's been out for a while, you can get a version that includes all of its downloadable content for a steal of a price. MekTek.net is an online community founded by Vince "VAM" McMullin in 1999 to provide free downloadable content and tools, developed in-house, for the MechWarrior series of video games. From this fan community for the MechWarrior 4: Mercenaries computer game in particular the Canada-based Studio MekTek, Inc. games development studio formed in 2006.
In 2009 it was announced that the MekTek team would be distributing MechWarrior 4: Mercenaries for free via their site, presumably to celebrate BattleTech's 25th anniversary. The rights were finally cleared by Microsoft in April of 2010 and the game was made available for free download.[1]
In 2013 the MekTek web site was shut down and the free distribution of MechWarrior 4: Mercenaries ceased. Currently, neither the full game nor the MekTek mod can legally be downloaded for free from the site. Subsequently, the MekTek team started development on a new robot-centered game called Heavy Gear Assault.
Besides offering the free MW4: Mercenaries download, MekTek is best known for producing the (unofficial; see Canonicity below) MekPaks, a series of mods and expansions for MechWarrior 4: Mercenaries. The MekPaks improved on the gameplay, especially multiplayer, and increased the number of playable units to over 120, adding new BattleMechs, battle armor types, infantry types, as well as new maps and new weapons. This included numerous entirely fan-made designs, some of which inspired later additions to BattleTech canon (see below).
Even though the core MechWarrior 4: Mercenaries game is an official BattleTech product that was published under a valid license by Microsoft, MekTek had no explicit permission or license to publish BattleTech material and never held an actual BattleTech license. They were merely allowed to offer Microsoft's product for free download. Their MekPak mods were developed completely independent of any of BattleTech's respective IP owners at the time, and were more tolerated than endorsed. As such, the MekPaks are not official products and are not in a position to contribute canon or apocrypha to the BattleTech universe.
